Description
'Purpurteppich' is German for 'Purple Carpet', an appropriate name for the colors on this plant. This cultivar has the scalloped leaves that are typical of the spurium group with a purple hue on the foliage. Comparatively, this cultivar has more purple color than the red-leaved varieties, including 'Atropurpureum'. Summer foliage color is green with purple edges that spread throughout the leaves in colder temperatures, making the leaves look somewhat bronze in color through the fall. The purple color continues to deepen until rosettes that are set for winter have a dark purple hue. Purple-pink flowers appear in Midsummer and attract bees, butterflies, and pollinators. An attractive green roof plant that is also appropriate for planted retaining walls.
