Description
As with many of the red-leaved spuriums, the leaves of this plant transition through a range of colors throughout the year. This cultivar in particular features excellent red to purple color in all but the hottest months. 'Atropurpureum' begins with bright yellow new growth in the spring, which contrasts distinctively with the already present reddish-purple leaves as the plant comes out of its winter dormancy. Foliage turns solid green in the summer. Pink flowers appear mid- to late Summer. Foliage turns red through the fall and winter, becoming more purple in tone in response to changes in temperature, light, and water. Dark reddish-purple rosettes persist through the winter.
