Opuntia phaeacantha

Description

This North American Native cactus is a wonderful structural addition to any roof. Large evergreen blue-green pads with dark brown spines give an extra dimension and texture all year.

The flowers are bright yellow with red centers and attract bees. Large red fruit follows and persists into the winter.

This plant should not be planted close to areas where people have easy access due to its spiny nature.

Opuntia phaeacantha is sold as individual cut pads which can be planted directly into green roof media.
